How can a parent turn the worst thing that’s ever happened into something positive.
In 2023, outback filmmaker Jason King lost his 18-year-old daughter Jordan to suicide. In the wake of this tragedy, he has set his sights on a journey through the Australian outback, carrying her ashes back to her birthplace in Alice Springs – both as a personal tribute and a public call for change.
Jordan Liberty is a deeply personal feature documentary currently in development. It’s not just a story of grief, but a search for hope, healing, and understanding in the face of one of Australia’s most urgent issues: youth suicide, particularly in regional and remote communities.
“This is the film I wish Jordan and I could have watched together. It’s too late for us- but not too late for others.” Jason King, father.
Help Us Tell This Story
Every day in Australia, more than one young person under 24 takes their own life. Many of them live in places like Broken Hill, where support is limited, stigma is strong, and silence can be deadly.
This film is about breaking that silence, even if that means having having uncomfortable conversations, because that can make a difference before its too late.
Through raw storytelling, Jordan’s own writings, archival footage, and expert insights, Jordan Liberty tackles difficult but vital topics:
- Youth mental health and suicide prevention
- Teenage anxiety, bullying, and the impact of social media
- Regional isolation and systemic failure in rural mental health
- Co-parenting after separation
- Generational trauma and the power of reconciliation
With your help, we can bring this story to life and start critical conversations that may save lives. We’re currently fundraising for the development process and seeking collaborators and impact partners to help craft a powerful story and create a ripple of positivity that can create meaningful change.

” I don’t want to be the girl who killed herself. I just want to be dead.” Jordan, 18.
